December 14, 2017 - December 21, 2017

ARTos foundation organizes, with-in the framework of the 9th X-Dream festival 2017, a series of actions under the title “From Darkness to Light” , taking place between the 14 – 21 December 2017 at ARTos Foundation. The project challenges both the creators as well as the spectators to a cross-disciplinary and experiential approach.

Even though the symbolism of darkness and light refers to a metaphysical dimension, this project explores the ecosystem of our senses and the dominance of visual information in our lives, in a very tangible manner. Based on the  modern neuroscience and brain function knowledge, we see nowadays that the “vision” overrides the other senses in a way that is rather ‘tyrannizing’ to us and to and our free will.

In the framework of the project ‘From Darkness to Light’ we are trying to escape from the ‘tyranny’ of visual information and provoke the other senses to flourish by creating different exploration scenarios in absolute darkness.

The project ‘From Darkness to Light’ consists of three actions:

  1. Symposium ‘ The tyranny of visual information’ 21 December (close event)
  2. Exhibition ‘Seeing revised’ 14-21 December – opening 8:00pm on the 14th of December
  3. Sound Theater by the composer Tasos Stylianou 16 December 2017, 8:00pm

The aim of these series of actions is to discover the world beyond vision and the perception of new information that is being processed in an experience within the body, with having the rest of our senses as the main navigation.
